A trending topic of many homeowners today is the fad of the houseplant. One simple plant can easily turn into an obsession and lead to a house full of greenery!

There are some typical plants that are easiest to find and the ones everyone tends to go for first. But there are also some gorgeous plants out there that not every plant-parent has been introduced to yet!

Unless you’re a plant expert, you may not have heard of these underrated options! Here are some that might deserve a little more love, especially in the tropical climate you experience living in Kaua’i:

This lush and bushy plant comes in many different colors and varieties, making it a great choice if you want your plant to double as a decor piece! Another perk: this little guy can survive in a variety of different light conditions and it’s easy to tell when it needs to be watered!

People often mistake this modern and sleek plant for a palm because of how tall it can get, but it’s a dracaena! They are low-light-tolerant and drought-tolerant, so they basically can live anywhere in most conditions.

Mistletoe Cactus (Rhipsalis Baccifera)
The mistletoe cactus is native to tropical regions like Kaua’i and can tolerate lower levels of light, unlike the desert cactus which requires a lot of sunlight.  Its cascading foliage makes it a great choice for a shelf or bookcase!

Bromeliads bloom beautiful flowers and are similar to micro-ecosystems because the majority of them have cups that hold their water, and wildlife flock to this water source.

BOTTOM LINE: Learning how to properly take care of houseplants and make sure they’re alive and thriving can be hard, but their beauty and aesthetic are so worth it!

If you want the perfect home to fill with all kinds of plants, I’d love to show you some real estate in Kaua’i that would make a great fit for you.
