Memorial Day Weekend on the Garden Island

Memorial Day is just around the corner, marking the unofficial start of summer. If you'll be joining the crowds descending on Kaua'i for the long holiday weekend, you're in for a treat. This lush Hawaiian island offers the perfect blend of relaxation and adventure to commemorate the real reason for the holiday - honoring those who have sacrificed their lives serving in the U.S. military.

Start your Memorial Day weekend by paying your respects at the Kaua'i Veterans Cemetery in Lihue. The serene memorial park has an avenue of trees representing the major battles in which Hawaii residents fought. Take a moment to reflect and give thanks to the brave souls being remembered here.

Next, check out the free Kaua'i Museum in Lihue to learn about Kaua'i's role in World War II. See artifacts and hear stories from the Battle of Kaua'i on July 31, 1942 when Japanese scout planes breached Hawaii airspace and an ammunition stockpile was bombed.

After the history and somber reflections, spend the rest of your long weekend soaking up Kaua'i's incredible natural beauty and aloha spirit. Kick back on Poipu Beach and watch a spectacular sunset. Hike the lush Waimea Canyon, aptly dubbed "The Grand Canyon of the Pacific." Drop a line in the Wailua River and reel in fresh salmon. Shop at local artisan markets and indulge in shave ice and mai tais.

Kaua'i has events and activities galore for the Memorial Day weekend too. Watch or join in the hula performances and lei-making demonstrations. Listen to live island music in beach parks. Cheer on competitors in outrigger canoe races and regattas in Hanalei Bay and other picturesque waters around Kaua'i. The island paradise truly comes alive over this festive long weekend.

However you spend your time on Kaua'i's shores this Memorial Day, take a moment to recognize those who gave their lives defending our freedoms. Then enjoy making new memories in one of the most beautiful places on earth.

If you’re looking to move to Kaua’i, I’d love to show you some real estate in Kaua’i that would make a great fit for you and your family on the Garden Island. To start your life of luxury, contact me at (808) 652-0530. Mahalo!
